Climbing & Rappelling
The climbing wall is a popular feature at Camp Davern. Located in the west end of the property, our wall is used as part of the Adventure program. Kids are challenged to climb various courses and at each opportunity work to accomplish their personal best.
High ropes offers campers both thrill and patience as they learn the specific techniques required to safely climb and belay in order to traverse our elements up to 40 feet in the air. Trained instructors take extra care to ensure the safe operation and facilitation of the high ropes program.
Initiative Challenge (IC)
Through the use of our low ropes course and initiatives, Initiative Challenge is designed to build positive communication and develop strong leadership bonds in groups of all ages. As a result of the terrific benefits of teamwork, communication and cooperation we see coming out of the program, IC is an activity all campers will take part in at some point during their time at camp.
Trek through the wooded trails all around the camp property. Explore parts of Davern you never knew existed or return to some of the more common trails for adventure. In the mountain biking program we focus on both the pleasure of riding and the responsibilities surrounding it. Campers lean bike maintenance, bike safety and etiquette to help them make positive decisions as they develop into more advanced riders ride the cabin areas if you are a beginner – or make your own course in the more advanced biking sessions. Cannondale and Trek bikes are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own bicycle (storage will be provided). Come bike the forests of the Litchfield hills – there are over 1,000 acres just waiting for you!
In the trailblazing program kids embark on guided hikes in the natural playground. It’s never a race, but rather a program that emphasizes the enjoyment of walking, the discovery of the world around us and the importance of thought and reflection. Trailblazing is the original extreme sport!
